The Elgon region is no longer dormant, busting with pride as the Elgon Wolves and She-Wolves secured core status for the 2024 National 7s.
The She-Wolves defeated the Kitgum 12-05 in the finale for the ladies’ qualifiers to secure their spot in next year’s competition, behind inspiration from exceptional ladies in Namalemba Habiba, Makhonge Dalia, Mukite Shakira and Galenda Blessed.
The She-Wolves join the Black Pearls, Thunderbirds, Avengers and the Nile Rapids.
In the men’s qualifiers, the Elgon Wolves needed a last-minute full score to defeat the stubborn Gulu City Falcons 21-20 and confirm core status.
The Wolves started so well, scoring and converting twice within the first three minutes.
However, the Falcons took control of the game, scoring three tries, a penalty and one conversion to lead 20-14 with less than a minute to spare.
The Wolves dug deep and drove the entire pitch length to score and convert at the death.
The Wolves dispatched Kyambogo in the semis, winning 38-12, while the Gulu City Falcons wrestled it out with the Eagles in the semi, eventually winning 19-17.
