Former Vipers SC (then Bunamwaya FC) custodian Godwin Buule Kiwanuka has announced his retirement from active football.

His last active involvement was at Soltilo Bright Stars in the 2020/21 season, with his last piece of action coming against his ex team, Vipers in a 2-0 loss at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

On the national team, his biggest mark was when he helped Uganda to win the CECAFA U20 Championship in 2010.

“Allow me to use this opportunity and thank everyone who has been part of my football journey directly or indirectly since my early days,” said Buule in a post.

“Thank you for the kindness and support. It has been one joyful journey we have shared together on and off the pitch and I am glad it has moulded me into a man I am today.

“But as a player, a time reaches when you realize that you cannot push your body. And it’s on this note that I am announcing my retirement from active football.”

Buule won the league title with Vipers in 2009/10. He also featured for Express twice and Proline FC before his final season at Bright Stars.

“And, once again, I thank every team that I had the honour to represent, every player I played alongside and all the fans out there, you will always be on my heart,” concluded Buule.

He represented Uganda at the U-20 championship in Eritrea, U-21 African qualifiers and U-23 All Africa games qualifiers.

He came through the Kampala kids league, going on to win the Gothia Cup (Sweden), two Norway cups (Norway) and two Tivoli cups (Denmark).

He also won two national post primary secondary schools championship titles with St Mary’s Kitende in 2007 and 2008, adding the East African Secondary Schools championship trophies.
