Cranes coach Paul Put has expressed his disappointment at his side’s 2-1 defeat to Guinea in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, but believes his team can bounce back against Somalia on Tuesday.

Put was left to rue a late freekick from substitute Cisse Seydouba, which handed Guinea the victory after Fahad Bayo had canceled out Aguibou Camara‘s early opener.

Despite the defeat, Put was proud of his players’ effort and believes they deserved at least a point.

“We fought for this game and unfortunately we didn’t get a point,” noted Put.

“We tried our best and I saw my players give in 100%. I didn’t understand that foul that contributed to the second goal we conceded. We are going to try and see that we improve before we play our next game.”

Left back Azizi Kayondo echoed Put’s sentiments and vowed that the Cranes would bounce back from their defeat.

“We tried our best but we didn’t get the result we wanted,” noted Kayondo. “Let’s stay focused and improve on where we didn’t go well. We shall fight to see that we win.”

Despite the loss, Uganda still has a chance to qualify for the next stage of the qualifiers. However, they will need to improve their performance if they want to finish top of Group G, which also includes Algeria, Somalia, Guinea, Botswana, and Mozambique.
