Uganda’s Crested Cranes suffered their second consecutive loss at the hands of a ruthless Harambee Starlets side, falling 4-0 in a one-sided encounter in Tanzania on Tuesday evening.

The 2022 CECAFA champions came into the match eager to bounce back after an opening loss, and they began brightly, showing early promise in the midfield.

But their efforts quickly unravelled when Kenya’s Diana Wacera broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, punishing Uganda’s failure to convert possession into goals.

Kenya captain Dorcas Sikobe Nixon doubled the lead ten minutes later, and just two minutes after that, Violet Nanjala Wanyonyi fired in the third, capitalizing on Uganda’s disorganised defence.

Reeling from the rapid goals, Uganda entered the second half with more urgency. They found some rhythm and carved out chances with forward Sylvia Kabene testing Kenya’s goalkeeper Lilian Onyango Awuor.

However, the custodian stood firm, denying Uganda any way back into the contest.

As full-time approached, Kenya sealed the rout with a fourth goal from Martha Emedot in the 81st minute, extinguishing any hope of a late Ugandan comeback.

With this result, Kenya and Tanzania who beat Burundi 6-0 now sit atop the group with six points each, though hosts Tanzania lead on goal difference.

Uganda, meanwhile, faces a must-win showdown against Tanzania on Thursday, while Kenya will look to maintain their perfect record against South Sudan.
