Crested Cranes Duo Receive Repeat Nominations for CAF Awards

Ugandan footballing stars Fazila Ikwaput and Fauzia Najjemba have once again captured the attention of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) by earning nominations for the coveted 2023 CAF Awards.

This marks the second consecutive year that the dynamic duo has been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the sport.

Najjemba, a prolific striker currently plying her trade with Russian club Dynamo Moscow, has been nominated for the coveted Young Player of the Year award.

Her impressive performances, including over 15 goals across league and cup competitions, have cemented her position as one of Africa’s most promising young talents.

Najjemba’s nomination places her in a competitive field alongside nine other exceptional youngsters, including South Africa’s Thubelihle Shamase, Morocco’s Nesryne El Chad, Senegal’s Hapsatou Diallo, and Tanzanian Winifreda Gerald.

Equally deserving of recognition is Fazila Ikwaput, the tenacious goal-poaching forward for Kampala Queens FC.

Ikwaput’s nomination for the Best Female Player of the Year award is a testament to her consistent brilliance and unwavering dedication to the sport.

Ikwaput’s nomination places her in a star-studded field of 29 other exceptional players, including Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie, Asisat Oshoala, and Evelyn Badu, Ghana’s duo of Comfort Yeboah and Mary Amponsah, Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga, and Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Grace Chanda. The competition is undoubtedly fierce, with each nominee boasting an impressive array of achievements.

Ikwaput has been one of the outstanding performers for Crested Cranes this year, with her best moments coming in Olympic Qualifier game against Rwanda where she scored the winning goal and at home against Cameroon.

The goal machine was also the top scorer in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers where she netted 8 goals in just 4 games.

This season, Kampala Queens striker has so far netted three goals in four league games helping her team to be on top of the table.

The winners of the prestigious CAF Awards will be unveiled on December 11, 2023, in Marrakech, Morocco.
