Crested Crane and Simba Queens duo Ritticia Nabbosa and Joanita Ainembabazi made history as they helped their club Simba Queens to lift the first-ever Women’s Community Shield after edging out JKT Queens 5-4 on post-match penalties last night.
The highly contested game at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday evening produced a 1-1 score in the normal period of play, hence attracting spot-kicks to decide the winner.
JKT Queens scored first in the 16th minute through Stumai Athumani before Damai Bobo incredibly equalized to put Simba Queens back in the contest.
In the second half, both teams lacked in terms of creating and being clinical in the final third and at the full-time whistle, it was all square and the title was to be decided on spot kicks.
Simba Queens were smarter than JKT as they scored 5 to 4 to win the first-ever Tanzania Women’s Community Shield.
Ritticia Nabbosa played the entire game while Joanita Ainembabazi came in as a substitute in the second half.
Simba Queens duo Carolyene Rufa and Vivian Corazone were awarded the best goalkeeper and most valuable player (MVP) of the tournament respectively.
To reach the final, Simba Queens thrashed Yanga Princess 5-4 on post-match spot-kicks while JKT Queens punished Fountain Gate Princess 5-0 both games unfolding at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the much-awaited Tanzania Women’s Premier League is set to kick-off on 20th December with four fixtures brightening the opening day at four venues.
JKT Queens will begin their title defence away as they face Bunda Queens at Karume Stadium while Simba Queens host Ceasiaa Queens at TFF Centre in Kigamboni.
