- Tanzania 2-0 Uganda
Uganda’s Crested Cranes suffered another blow at the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship, losing 2-0 to hosts Tanzania in their third group game on Wednesday.
The defeat, their third of the tournament, leaves the 2022 champions in a difficult spot with just one win against South Sudan from four matches (including Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania).
Tanzania, playing with confidence and backed by a lively home crowd, struck early. Opa Clement Tukumbuke gave the Twiga Stars the lead in the 22nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to calmly beat the Ugandan keeper.
Uganda responded with more urgency, led by captain Zainah Namuleme. Forward Sylvia Kabene came close twice, forcing saves before halftime, but the Cranes couldn’t find the breakthrough.
In the second half, Tanzania continued to press and sealed the win in the 72nd minute. Diana Msewa pounced on another defensive mistake to double the lead.
Twiga Stars coach Shime Bakari praised his team’s consistency. “I’m happy we’ve gone three games without conceding. Now we focus on Kenya,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kenya kept their perfect record intact with a dominant 4-0 win over South Sudan earlier in the day.
