Jackson Ogwang, the Cricket Cranes coach was left disappointed after his team’s embarrassing loss to Rwanda on Monday in their opening game at the ACA T20 Africa Cup.
Ogwang’s team entered the game as overwhelming favourites, but they endured a shocking defeat that came in form of a 2-run loss to Rwanda.
It was the first time Uganda were losing to Rwanda in any form of cricket. It was a loss that left the Cricket Cranes coach disappointed and he could not shy away from his dismay

During the post match interview, Ogwang attributed the loss to complacency and the need for individual glory by some players.

“We have certain individuals who are trying to play for themselves and putting the team’s plans and goals aside,” A visibly disappointed Ogwang said after the game.
“Credit to Rwanda they came out fighting but this is a game we should have put to bed early if not for individuals who are trying to look at their own individual scores and trying to be superstars.”
Complacent Cricket Cranes
Ogwang also said his players let their guard loose after qualifying for the World Cup.
“It all comes down to respecting mother cricket. You play around with it, it kicks you. We thought by qualifying for the World Cup we have become untouchables.”

“We were very complacent, and It’s something I’ve been preaching to the boys for a long timetime. We always have to maintain and play to our standards no matter the opposition. We came out today thinking the job is done. The job is never done until the last ball.
“We deserve to lose maybe this will act as a wake up call. It’s okay to lose, but lose while doing the right thing. We did not do any right thing today.”
Uganda face Mozambique next on Wednesday. They will be hoping to return to winning ways and get their title defence back on track.
