After a full day of rest, Uganda’s Cricket Cranes beat rivals Kenya by 28 runs in the Migingo Derby of the Pearl of Africa T20 Series on Monday at the Lakeside Oval in Entebbe.

Batting first, Uganda who won the toss posted 157 for 5 in 20 overs. After a quick start from Shrideep Mangela (17), the team lost a few early wickets, including Ronald Lutaaya for a duck.

But a steady 72-run partnership between Raghav Dhawan (41) and Robinson Obuya (40) rebuilt the innings.

Late hitting from Juma Miyaji (19 off 8) and Dinesh Nakrani (24*) boosted the total, taking advantage of Kenya’s sloppy bowling that included six wides and two no-balls.

In reply, Kenya stumbled to 12 for 3, with veteran Frank Nsubuga taking 3 for 10 in just 3 overs. Rakep Patel led the fightback with a determined 58, supported by Sachin Gill (30).

But Cosmas Kyewuta’s 3 for 21, including both key batters, sealed Kenya’s fate.

Kenya finished on 129 for 7, falling short by 28 runs.

The win gives Uganda bragging rights in East Africa’s fiercest cricket rivalry and strengthens their place in the tournament as they prepare to face Nigeria next on Tuesday in the second round bin phase.
