The Cricket Cranes secured their first win at the ongoing ACA T20 Africa Cup in Benoni, South Africa with a 7-wicket win over Malawi on Wednesday.

The Cranes shook off a disappointing start that came with a loss to Rwanda on Monday to get the defence of this cup back on track.

It was a slow start for Uganda in their chase. The top order of Simon Ssesazi, Ronak Patel and Roger Mukasa put on a combined 23 runs only, but the duo of Robinson Obuya and Kenneth Waiswa eased up things.

Obuya hit a quick 36 that included four sixes as he took Uganda towards the finish line. He had support from Waiswa who was also not out on 22.

In the first innings, Bilal Hassun and Henry Senyondo picked the wickets, each with two. Bilal was the meanest of the two, however, as he conceded only 8 runs off his three Overs.

This was Uganda’s first win in the competition. They will need to beat Mozambique too for them to progress to the semifinals.

The two sides meet on Friday afternoon for that final group game.

If Cricket Cranes progress to the next stage, they will likely face Botswana who are currently second in Group B.
