Cricket Cranes Stunned by Rwanda in ACA T20 Africa Cup Opener

The Cricket Cranes started the defence of the ACA T20 Africa Cup in a humiliating manner following their 2 run loss to Rwanda on Monday.

The Cricket Cranes fresh from sealing a maiden World Cup slot in Namibia were subjected to the same humiliation they inflicted on Zimbabwe during the World Cup Qualifiers.

Uganda went into the game as overwhelming favourites. They had never lost to Rwanda, and are the defending champions, but Rwanda pulled off a heist that goes down into their history books.

Usually an easy target to chase for Uganda, the 115 Rwanda set proved too many for Jackson Ogwang‘s team to track down

Roger Mukasa was very explosive in his innings! Opening with Simon Ssesazi, Mukasa raced to 36 in no time, but was run out for Rwanda’s first wicket.

Mukasa’s wicket was a breakthrough for Rwanda because after that run out, wickets kept falling.

Uganda realised what had hit them later on and at this point were cornered.

Jonathan Sebanja and Alpesh Ramjani had a chance to salvage the game, but when the latter decided against playing a single that could’ve put Alpesh on striker and instead flighted the ball with only three balls needed from four balls, it was trouble for the Cricket Cranes.

Sebanja was caught which brought Henry Ssenyondo – Uganda’s last wicket to the crease. Senyondo was exceptional with the ball! He bowled the day’s best figures 3/12, but was unable to go beyond one ball.

In the end it was joy for Rwanda who finally get their first win against Uganda.

Rwanda now lead Group A with maximum points. Uganda take a one day break. They will return to action on Wednesday against Malawi before facing Mozambique on Friday in their final group fixture.
