Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has made it public knowledge that the 2021 and 2022 joint Nile Special Annual Gala will be held on September 16, 2023.
The developments were confirmed by USPA president Moses Alsayed Lubega on Monday, July 3, at the annual monthly assembly at the Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.
“All the necessary features required to host the event of that nature have been actualized,” Lubega told the press.
“The numbers, the guests here and across borders, the colour, the partnerships for broadcast and the accolades have been sealed. So, what a way to celebrate two years of sports exhibition in one,” he added.
Meanwhile, the assembly provided chance for the recognition and rewarding of paralympic swimmer Larry Feni, who was unanimously voted the Nile Special USPA Sports Personality for June.
Feni clinched two gold medals at the Special Olympics in Germany last month, which were also Uganda’s only medals at the games.
To add, Larry Feni’s coach, Ezra Kalari, won the Supportive/Assist Award at the same event.
On the other hand, the Junior Silverbacks, who collected 200 points, won the Young Talent Award for qualifying to the FIBA Africa U16 Championship in Tunisia.
In a first of it’s kind for the media, journalists Allan Darren Kyeyune of Nation Media and Nicole Apio from Next Media Services were the winners of the Plascon-USPA Media awards in the Print & Website and Broadcast categories, respectively.
