Defending champions Deliverance Church will seek to get their title defense in the Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) Uganda Cup off to a good start when they face Makerere University in their opening game on Saturday.

Deliverance Church are not enjoying the best of forms in the league, but with them being the only female side to have lifted the Uganda Cup trophy, they will fancy their chances to get their Uganda Cup campaign on a good note.

Their top scorer Brenda Achayo, who has netted 8 goals in the league, will be looked upon to overcome any form of resistance Makerere will bring.

Wananchi, who consider themselves the big dogs in Ugandan hockey, will also open their campaign on Saturday against Weatherhead Historicals.

Wananchi have never won the Uganda Cup, but they will be hoping to start this year’s competition with a win.

Kampala Swans, who lead the table standings in the women’s division, will play Wananchi sister club Wananchi-HDF, while Weatherhead will face Thunders, the bottom side in the league.
