It is not a given that you have to start young in order to be really good at something, but it is highly recommended for sports.
However, in developing countries, it can be difficult to access the resources and opportunities needed to start young.
In Uganda, a group of pupils from Kampala Community International School had the opportunity to visit the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) headquarters.
The visit was led by UOC boss, Dr. Donald Rukare, and Olympian Jamilah Lunkuse.
Lunkuse, who represented Uganda at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games, shared her sports journey with the pupils.
She told them that in order to qualify for the Games, you have to be the best in your country. She also emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication.
The pupils were inspired by Lunkuse’s story and were eager to learn more about sports. They had a fun-filled physical session to climax their stay at the UOC headquarters.
This visit was a great opportunity for the pupils to learn about the Olympic Values and to be inspired by a true Olympian.
It is important to remember that you don’t have to start young in order to be good at something. With hard work and dedication, anything is possible.
Here are some additional tips for becoming good at something, even if you didn’t start young:
- Find a mentor or coach who can help you develop your skills.
- Set realistic goals and track your progress.
- Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is a part of the learning process.
- Stay motivated and don’t give up.
With hard work and dedication, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
