Our star ⭐️ of the day is Ugandan queen of the track, the “Arua Gazelle” … Dorcus Inzikuru. She became the first woman to win the 3,000m steeplechase gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki, Finland in 2005.

She followed this up with success in the same event at the Commonwealth Games in 2006 to cement her name among the greatest in the world.

Before the fame, Inzikuru started participating in athletics when she was still young at Ezuku Primary school in Vurra Sub-county, Arua district.

She later joined Mvara SS where she became very active in sports, winning several competitions in both short and long races.

Inzikuru also has other international medals namely; gold at the 2005 World Championships, a Silver and Bronze from the African Games and Afro-Asian Games respectively.

The three times USPA personality of the year (2000, 2002, and 2005) has a sports academy known as the Inzikuru Sports Academy in Bulange, Mengo.

The venture helps rising athletes to explore their talents in different disciplines like football, volleyball, and track and field. In addition, the setup also provides health and fitness services, plus aerobics.

Still in line with nurturing the next generation, back in 2021, Inzikuru joined the Uganda Police Force under the sports department in charge of women’s affairs.

Life hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Inzikuru. She has had a mixed life off the track which distracted her as she had to find a way out of an abusive marriage, and became a single mother after the passing of her divorced husband.

Inzikuru went back to school and graduated with a certificate and diploma in Business Administration from Makerere Institute of Social Development in 2013.

She pushed for more success in academia and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Ndejje University.

The icing on the cake of her life off the track was her second wedding at St. Francis Chapel, Makerere University in 2018.

With no smoke so far from the house of the former MP aspirant, we pray all is well.

This means more!
