Record Masaza Cup winners Gomba have unveiled Simon Ddungu, popularly known as Dunga, as their new head coach ahead of the 2025 tournament.
The highly rated tactician joins Gomba after leading Buddu to the 2024 Masaza Cup title, defeating Kyaggwe 1-0 in the final at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
This move marks a homecoming for Dunga, who previously guided Gomba to Masaza Cup glory in 2017, when they edged Ssingo, then coached by Shafik Bisaso in the final.

He now takes over a Gomba side that endured a disastrous 2024 campaign, failing to advance beyond the group stage.
Midway through the season, Frank Mulindwa was sacked and replaced by Nasibu Mukasa, but the change failed to turn their fortunes around.
Dunga brings vast experience to Gomba, having previously managed multiple Masaza teams, including:
- Mawokota (2013, 2019)
- Gomba (2017)
- Buddu (2018, 2024)
- Mawogola (2020)
- Ssingo (2021, 2023)
With five previous Masaza Cup titles (2004, 2009, 2014, 2017, 2020), Gomba will be aiming to reclaim their dominance under Dunga’s leadership in the 2025 edition.
