Uganda’s Members of Parliament produced a ruthless performance at the 15th East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games, thumping Kenya 72–12 in a one sided netball match at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Sunday.

Hon. Sarah Kayaki Netalisile (Namisindwa) and Hon. Juliet Kakande Nakabuye (Masaka City) led the scoring, sealing Uganda’s second win of the tournament and boosting their status as top contenders in regional parliamentary sport.

The Games bring together MPs from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.

They were officially opened on 6 December at Kololo, with President Yoweri Museveni, represented by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, calling on participants to view the event as a celebration of unity, not rivalry.

“Our region only grows when we lift each other up,” Tayebwa said, passing on the president’s message.

He stressed the importance of cooperation across the region, including removing trade barriers and improving shared infrastructure.

The multi-sport programme features football, netball, athletics, tug of war, golf, volleyball, basketball and darts at venues across Kampala.

Netball continues on Tuesday with Burundi facing South Sudan, while Uganda return on Wednesday against South Sudan at Makerere Indoor Arena. Kenya will play Burundi earlier that day.

This year’s edition will close on 17 December, with organisers promising a colourful finale to what they describe as more than competition, an expression of East Africa’s common identity and growing integration.
