2025 EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games

  • Uganda 4-1 Burundi

Uganda Parliamentary football team began their EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games title defense in style with a commanding 4–1 victory over Burundi under the lights at Phillip Omondi Stadium on Friday night.

From the first whistle, Uganda looked determined to remind everyone why they are champions.

Hon. John Lamatia struck just two minutes into the match, giving Uganda the perfect start and setting the tone for a dominant night.

From that moment, the hosts looked in control, sharper in possession and hungrier in attack.

But the star of the evening was Katikamu North legislator Hon. Dennis Ssekabira, who lit up the second half with a stunning hat-trick.

His performance, full of confidence and precision, earned him man of the match and sent fans in the stands into full celebration mode.

Burundi’s Hon. Shabani Nimubona pulled one back, but the goal barely troubled Uganda, who continued to dictate the game.

Kampala Central’s Hon. Muhammad Nsereko missed a penalty, but by then the result was beyond doubt.

Earlier in the day, the Games were officially opened at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in a colourful ceremony led by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.

The Inter-Parliamentary Games bring together lawmakers from across the East African Community, using sport to strengthen regional friendship and cooperation beyond political talk.

Over the next two weeks, teams will compete in football, basketball, netball, volleyball, athletics, golf, darts and tug of war.

After such a strong start on the football pitch, Uganda’s focus now shifts to basketball on Sunday, December 7, when they take on Kenya at Lugogo Indoor Arena at 2pm.
