The Kampani’s Eagles had a fantastic performance in their last pool game of the Uganda Cup, securing a comfortable 29-7 bonus point victory against the Elgon Wolves. This win allowed them to finish at the top of their group and qualify for the playoffs.

Since their impressive triumph over Pirates in the opening game, the Kitante-based team has made history by reaching their first quarter-final appearance in the Uganda Cup since its establishment in 2020.

Although they suffered a defeat against the Pirates in their final pool stage match with a score of 15-29, the Buffaloes’ chances of advancing to the playoffs relied heavily on the outcome of this game.

The winds seemed to be blowing in their favour when Elgon Wolves briefly boycotted the final fixture due to poor pitch conditions at Kitante.

However, after necessary interventions, the game proceeded as planned and the Eagles secured a crucial bonus point victory, securing their position at the top of Group B. As a result, they will face off against Mongers, who finished as runners-up in Group C.

On the other hand, the Pirates will face their rivals, the KCB Kobs, who finished first in their group with an impressive 16-31 win over Mongers.

In other pool games, Rhinos’ 16-9 victory over Impis was not enough to secure them a spot in the playoffs.

Their draw against Hippos forced them into a game of luck and calculations.

Despite this loss, Impis had already solidified their place in the quarter-finals even before this match.

They finished at the top of their group and are now set to face Rams, who finished as runners-up in Group A despite suffering a 06-26 loss to Heathens.

Unlike previous years when the Uganda Cup was solely a knockout tournament, this year introduced group games to determine playoff qualifications.

This change has made this year’s tournament highly competitive as each team had four games to earn their spot in the playoffs.

The Uganda Cup will now take a break for the Christmas holidays and will resume on January 6th, 2024.
