Burundi National Police conquered day 1 by bagging five gold medals in six categories of both genders, humbling other Security forces that are taking part in the third edition of the East Africa Interforces Judo Championship.

The Championship, majorly organized by Uganda Police Force and sponsored by Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS), is taking place at Old Kampala Sports Arena, with 80 players representing 8 Interforces teams from 5 countries.

On day one, the host Uganda Police force managed 5 medals, bagging two silver medals won by Susan Awio in the under 48kg category and Veronica Ayo in the under 57kg category.

The other three medals were bronze, won by Teddy Aloro in the under 52kg category and Joan Nabirye in the under 57kg category, all in women’s, while Gabriel Kiplimo was the only Ugandan man in the medal bracket with a bronze in the under 60kg category.

Under the Burundi National Police, Arnaud Niyonyishu of the under 66kg weight category and Lyn Irakoze of the under 73kg weight category won Gold medals in the men’s categories.

The only other force to reap a Gold medal is the Police of the Democratic Republic of Congo, courtesy of Jean Botihi Mongida in the under 60kg weight category.

The championship will climax on Sunday, December 7, with remaining categories including under 81kg, 90kg, 100kg, and over 100kg in men’s.

In women’s, the under 63kg, 70kg, 78kg, and above 78kg categories are taking action again at Old Kampala Arena as more medals will be awarded, and trophies will also be awarded.

Countries that ushered teams into the Championship are Uganda, Burundi, Dr. Congo, Kenya, and Rwanda.
