After a two-year break, the Waterfalls Women’s T20 Elite League returns from January 27 to February 1, 2026, bringing elite competition back to the Lugogo Cricket Oval.
Last played in 2023, the league missed the 2024 and 2025 seasons, leaving a clear gap in Uganda’s women’s cricket calendar.
Its revival, led by Cricket Uganda’s High-Performance Department, signals a fresh push to rebuild the women’s game and prepare players for a busy 2026 season.
This edition is built around balance, mixing experienced national team players with rising Under-19 talents.
It’s a simple idea with a big impact, give young players exposure, keep the standard high, and grow the game from within.
Three teams will battle for the title: Itanda Kayakers, Karuma Rapids, and Bujjagali Rafters.
The absence of the Sipi Trekkers, champions of the inaugural 2023 edition, means there will be a new winner this time, but the quality remains strong, with squads drawn from across the country.
Leadership adds another layer to the story. Former champion captain Janet Mbabazi returns to the league as skipper of the Itanda Kayakers.
Stephanie Nampiina will lead the Bujjagali Rafters, while Proscovia Alako takes charge of the Karuma Rapids.
The dugouts are just as strong. Ivan Kakande coaches Karuma Rapids, Aaron Kusasira leads Itanda Kayakers, and Jonathan Sebanja heads Bujjagali Rafters, a coaching lineup that promises a competitive and well-run tournament.
The league starts at full speed. On opening day, Bujjagali Rafters face a tough double-header first against Itanda Kayakers in the morning, then Karuma Rapids in the afternoon. Games will tip off at 10 a.m and 2 p.m daily.
Each team will play the others three times, with the top two sides meeting in the final on February 1 at 2 p.m.
