The stage is set for a thrilling MAXX final on Sunday at the Lugogo Cricket Oval after Emerald and Gold secured their spots with commanding victories over Ruby and Sapphire respectively.
Both teams displayed dominant performances, showcasing their batting firepower and bowling depth.
Emerald delivered a clinical 33-run win against Ruby thanks to Pascal Murungi’s explosive 55 off 27 balls and Baidu Ivan’s match-winning hat-trick.
Batting first, Emerald found themselves struggling at 33/4 with Juma Miyaji (3/11) and Mathew Musinguzi (4/20) causing early damage.
However, Murungi’s aggressive stroke play, blasting seven sixes powered them to 129 all out in 16.5 overs.
In response, Ruby’s chase never gained momentum, Fred Achelam (32) and Brian Asaba (24) were the only notable contributors as Baidu Ivan’s fiery spell (4/16), including a stunning hat-trick, ripped through the batting lineup.
Pascal Murungi (3/14) and Suleman Sharif (2/29) also played key roles, ensuring Ruby folded for 96 in 14 overs.
In the second semifinal, Gold edged out Sapphire by 17 runs, riding on Kenneth Waiswa’s scintillating 82 off 42 balls and Steven Wabwose’s 4/16 spell.
After losing Oscar Manishimwe for a duck, Gold relied on Waiswa’s dominant innings which featured seven sixes and five fours guiding them to a solid 172/6 in 20 overs.
Steven Wabwose (30) and Jonathan Ssebanja (13) added valuable late runs while Bilal Hassan (2/15) and Hamu Kayondo (2/24) were Sapphire’s best bowlers.
Sapphire’s chase was promising, with Collins Obuya (57) with 6 fours and 2 sixes and Cyrus Kakuru (42) keeping them in the hunt. But from a strong 145/2, Wabwose’s magic with the ball turned the game as Sapphire collapsed to 155/7, falling short by 17 runs.
