Uganda Cranes skipper, Erbil SC forward, and Christmas baby Emmanuel Arnold Okwi is our star of the day.

Okwi, a former student of St. Henry’s College Kitovu and St. Mary’s SS Kitende started his professional career at Villa Park in 2008 with local giants SC Villa before joining Tanzanian giants Simba SC in 2009 for US $40,000.

Okwi’s skills and eagle eye for goal attracted Tunisian side Etoile Sportive du Sahel for a record transfer of US $300,000 but the team failed to pay the fee to Simba, hence switching back to SC Villa.

The forward later raised dust, witnessing protests in Tanzania after he moved to Young Africans SC, bitter rivals of his former side Simba SC.

Okwi made his debut for Uganda Cranes in 2009 and was the second-highest scorer in the 2010 CECAFA Cup, with 4 goals in 5 games played.

Okwi has been a journeyman and throughout his career playing for a plethora of clubs abroad including Soderjyske, Al Ittihad, and Kiyovu FC. For Uganda Cranes, he has scored an impressive 28 goals in 94 appearances. His best year was 2013 when he netted 5 goals in 10 games.

During the 2019 AFCON tournament, Okwi’s first continental appearance, he scored twice against DR Congo and Zimbabwe in a 2-0 win and 1-1 draw respectively.

This feat made Okwi only the 5th Ugandan to score twice at a single Africa Cup of Nations tournament joining an elite list with stellar names such as Denis Obua, Stanley ‘Tank’ Mubiru, Phillip Omondi, and Godfrey Kisitu.

Merry Christmas good people!

This means more!
