Makerere-based Ewes Rugby Club have finally broken into Uganda’s elite women’s rugby, earning core status at Saturday’s qualifiers at Ruga Ruga Sports Facility in Gayaza.

The Ewes, affiliated with Makerere Rams, narrowly missed promotion last year, losing out to Walukuba Titans.

This time, they sealed their place without question, marking a historic milestone for the club.

Their promotion has sparked debate among fans, will the top flight see relegation, or will the Uganda Rugby Union expand the women’s division?

The She Wolves from Mbale, who finished bottom in 2025, face uncertainty despite strong performances over two seasons.

Stars Habiba Namalembe, Gladys Wilembe, and Sunday Anirwoth showed flashes of brilliance, but consistency eluded the team.

The series was fiercely competitive. Debutants Walukuba Titans impressed by reaching the first circuit final while established sides like Black Pearls, Avengers, and Nile Rapids fell short.

In the end, Kyadondo Rugby Club’s Thunderbirds lifted the trophy, reaffirming their dominance in the women’s game.
