All over the World, there have been ongoing disputes in the football sector with Federations being the centre of these and many other factors outside.
Currently in Uganda, there is one with the new format League and old format League however with all this the FIFA Council charts a path for Unity.
The FIFA Council, meeting at the Home of FIFA in Zurich on Thursday, October 2, 2025, adopted key decisions on governance, competitions, and football’s role as a force for unity.
Opening the session, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stressed the game’s responsibility to promote peace amid global conflicts, pointing to the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
“FIFA cannot solve geopolitical problems, but it can and must use football’s unifying, educational, cultural and humanitarian values,” he said.
The meeting drew observers including European Club Association Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Swiss FA President Peter Knäbel, and Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee Chairman Bruno Chiomento.
Protecting the Game
Council members voiced concern over legal and governance challenges from groups outside the football pyramid, warning such disputes could undermine clubs and national teams.
“FIFA will continue to invite all stakeholders for meaningful dialogue to protect players, balance club and national football, and improve the game for the future,” Infantino noted.
As part of reforms, FIFA appointed members to its new Standing Committees for 2025–2029.
The bodies are designed to broaden participation of member associations, strengthen technical expertise and increase women’s representation in decision-making.
