Launched in 2016, FIFA Forward is the world’s largest sports development program, redistributing FIFA’s revenues among its 211 member associations.

By 2026, FIFA plans to invest a record USD 5 billion in football projects globally, ensuring the world’s most popular sport continues to grow in reach and opportunity.

FIFA has expanded its football development drive to Niger, unveiling new projects designed to boost the country’s infrastructure and grassroots participation.

Through the FIFA Forward and FIFA Arena programs, the global body is equipping Niger with modern facilities and stronger administrative capacity to grow the game nationwide.

Two new school mini-pitches have been installed at CES 22 Talladje and CES 9 Harobanda Primary School in Niamey, making Niger one of the first 11 countries and the third in Africa to benefit from the FIFA proximity pitch initiative.

These sustainable arenas will provide safe, inspiring spaces for an estimated 10,000 students and community youth to play football.

The initiative promotes social inclusion, education, and youth development, especially in densely populated neighborhoods.

It is part of FIFA’s wider plan to build 1,000 mini-pitches worldwide by 2031, contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals by expanding access to sport in both urban and rural areas.

Work is also underway on the Niger Football Federation’s (FENIFOOT) new headquarters, funded entirely by FIFA Forward at a cost of USD 4.2 million.

The six-storey complex will house modern offices, improved staff facilities, and expanded accommodation at the federation’s technical centre, marking a new era for Nigerien football administration.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised Niger’s progress, saying:

“Congratulations to the Nigerien Football Federation. You are part of our Starting 11, the first 11 countries to inaugurate FIFA Arena mini-pitches. You are contributing to a project capable of changing the lives of millions of children.”

FENIFOOT President Issaka Adamou emphasized the project’s social impact:

“When football becomes an educational tool, it’s a whole country preparing its youth’s future. Integrating football into schools strengthens civic education, inclusion, and youth development through sport.”
