Uganda Chess Federation, in coalition with the Sports Outreach Ministry’s Differently Abled Chess Program, has sent a delegation of five, including three players, to represent the country at the 2nd FIDE Chess Olympiad in Kazakhstan.
Out there, the team, which is travelling on Saturday, October 18, will take part in the international event, which is staged for people with disabilities, to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The event, scheduled to take place from October 19th to 25th, 2025, will have 28 national teams from all the continents, with Africa being represented by 5 countries.
This participation marks another milestone in Uganda’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities through sports, providing a platform for them to demonstrate their capabilities and inspire others.
Speaking about the engagement, Coach Robert Katende, founder of the Differently Abled Chess Program under Sports Outreach Ministry, noted: “This is a moment of pride for Uganda and a testament to what is possible when inclusion meets opportunity.
