Thick fog covering the opening Harugongo stage (36.31km) forced organizers to delay the start of the 2024 UMC Fort Portal Tourism City Rally by over two hours. With safety a top priority, especially in controlling rally fans, organizers opted for a descending start list order.
Originally scheduled to start at 8:48 AM, the first car, Nassib Ssesanga and Shaina Kobusingye in a Toyota Celica pickup, was pushed back. Following them are Topher Kateera in a Subaru GC8 and Ahmed Ssenyonjo in a Toyota Corolla.
Rookies Haruna Kataza navigated by Urban Mulindwa in a Subaru N8, and Musa Ssegabwe and Mathias Kiyegga in a Mitsubishi Evo9 will kick off the high-powered four-wheelers as cars four and five.
The final stages will feature a thrilling showdown between Peter Kalule (car number 18), Nasser Mutebi (car number 17), and the Evo9 duo of Dr Mustapha Mukasa and Lawrence Mwambazi.
The Equity Bank-sponsored crew, currently second in the NRC standings with 178 points, aims to challenge championship leader and event absentee Jas Mangat who has garnered 200 points.
Other top contenders like Jonas Kansiime and Ronald Ssebuguzi are expected to excite fans as they battle for the event win.
