Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic alias Micho has confirmed the final squad that will travel to Morocco for the crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Niger.

A squad comprising 23 players has been confirmed and will travel to Morocco on Saturday aboard Emirates airlines.

However, only four local-based players have made the final squad, raising eyebrows about the belief or rather the quality of the Uganda Premier League.

Laban Tibita of URA FC, Kenneth Semakula of SC Villa, KCCA FC‘s Moses Waiswa and Vipers SC skipper Milton Karisa are the only four players from the UPL in the team.

“After days of preparations in Kampala, I believe we are at the best level to go and compete against Niger,” Micho defended his selection.

“We already have two foreign players Taddeo Lwanga and Abdu Aziizi Kayondo that have been training with us while the rest will join us in Marrakech.”

Against Niger, Uganda target victory but will also have to pray that second-placed Tanzania suffers defeat against leaders Algeria.
