URA FC interim coach Fred Muhumuza is delighted with his team’s first win this season in the Startimes Uganda Premier League.

Muhumuza revealed this after they defeated Gaddafi 2-0 at Metha stadium in Lugazi courtesy of goals from defender Najib Fesali and new signing Moses Aliro.

The tax collectors had earlier settled for a goalless draw with UPDF in their opening game of the 2023/24 campaign.

“We managed to rectify the mistakes we made in the first game. It feels good that we won our first game.”

“We have a good team that has the quality to compete. We just need to improve and this victory will drive us,” noted Muhumuza.

“We need to continue working hard so that we stay on course. And I believe this team can make it”.

The tax collectors will make a trip to Kavumba to face Soltilo Bright Stars in their next game on Thursday.

“Our focus has now shifted to our Thursday game. We want to continue performing well and I believe we can achieve the results,” he added.

Since they shared spoils in Bombo against UPDF on matchday one, they will be seeking to win their first away game this season.

URA have in the past seasons had squads that would challenge Vipers and KCCA for the title but have not lived up to that billing in recent years.

They last won the league title in 2011.
