Kampala Queens FC have named Shakirah Nankwanga as their new captain ahead of the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers.

The announcement came on Wednesday via the club’s social media pages.

Nankwanga replaces Shamirah Nalugya, who left for FC Minsk in Belarus. Jamirah Nabulime has been appointed vice-captain.

Nankwanga, 23, joined Kampala Queens from Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC in 2024 and signed a three-year deal.

In her debut season, she was instrumental in helping the club win the league title and earned a spot on the 2024 FUFA Women’s Team of the Year.

Honored by the new role, Nankwanga vowed to lead by example;

“It’s an honor to captain such a big club. We are ready to fight for Kampala Queens and make Uganda proud,” she said.

Under coach Asefa Firew Haile Gabreal, Kampala Queens are in Kenya preparing for the zonal qualifiers, which start Thursday, September 4, 2025.

They face Kenya Police Bullets in their opening match at Nyayo Stadium at 4 PM.
