The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has struck an iron hand on indiscipline, cracking the whip on National Basketball League stars Paul Odongo, Ferdinand Odama, David Opolot, and Martin Ouma Buluma.
Namuwongo Blazers‘ Odongo has been suspended for two games, and handed a $200 fine by FUBA.
The outspoken player termed the referees ‘crap’ and ‘rusty’ following contentious decisions that went against his side in their 87-77 defeat to UCU Canons last Friday.
Meanwhile, UPDF Tomahawks have had their duo of Odama and Opolot receive the whip over aggressive foul play and violent behavior respectively.
Odama, on Sunday, pushed City Oilers’ Titus Lual mid-air as the latter attempted a dunk, and has as such been banned for two games and ordered to pay $200.
His teammate, Opolot was involved in a physical altercation with KCCA Panthers’ Martin Buluma, and will consquently sit out three matches and also pay $200.
Opolot’s victim, Buluma will also pay the same amount, but will only miss a game, a tie against Kampala Rockets.
While FUBA’s hardened hand is meant to erase any indiscipline tendencies, it has received heavy criticism with many calling the $200 fine (Ugx.750,000) too much for the players who already earn peanuts.
