Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has revised the 2026 National Basketball League (NBL) fixtures following growing criticism from fans, analysts and stakeholders over the original schedule.
In a statement released ahead of Matchday Two, FUBA confirmed changes to 24 fixtures, saying the decision was guided by concerns about competitive balance, fan experience and the long-term growth of the league, especially the womenās competition.
Much of the criticism focused on the allocation of Friday night, 7 PM games at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, the leagueās prime slot to newly promoted teams.
These games traditionally draw the largest crowds and set the tone for the NBL weekend.
The debate intensified after Pearl Queens, promoted ahead of the 2026 season, were scheduled to play five of the nine Friday night womenās games in the first round.
While the Queens arrived with confidence after winning the Division One title, questions were raised about whether they were ready for such heavy exposure so early.
Those concerns appeared justified on opening night when Pearl Queens suffered a heavy 74ā29 defeat to JT Lady Jaguars.
The result fuelled fears that repeated prime-time appearances could damage both the teamās confidence and the leagueās overall image.
FUBA had initially leaned on Pearl Queensā strong pre-season profile when drawing up the fixtures.
However, following feedback, several of their high-profile matchups have been reviewed.
Their originally scheduled Friday games against record champions UCU Lady Canons on March 13 and defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins on April 3 remain key reference points in the revised calendar.
One immediate change affects this weekās programme. The Pearl Queens versus KCCA Leopards game, initially set for Friday at 7 PM, has been moved to Saturday, February 14 at 10 AM. UCU Lady Canons will now face Magic Stormers in the Friday night slot.
In total, 10 womenās league fixtures and 14 menās games have been adjusted, highlighting the scale of the overhaul.
The updated schedule comes just in time for Matchday Two, which tips off tomorrow, Wednesday February 11, with six games across three venues.
At YMCA Wandegeya, Miracle Eaglets face UPDF Lady Tomahawks at 7 PM before City Oilers take on UPDF Tomahawks at 9 PM.
At the Lugogo Indoor Arena, KIU Rangers meet Angels at 7 PM, followed by Sommet BC against UMU Flames at 9 PM.
Meanwhile, action at the Jaguars Den in Kira will see JT Lady Jaguars play Victoria She Crocs at 7 PM, before JT Jaguars host Victoria Crocs at 9 PM.
With the revised fixtures in place, FUBA will be hoping the new balance restores confidence, protects competitiveness and delivers a stronger, more sustainable NBL season going forward.
