On New Year’s Eve, in the chase for the 2026-2027 top-flight qualification, leaders Blacks Power FC picked up a narrow win over their end-of-2025 closest challenger, Kigezi Homeboyz.

Emmanuel Janan Okech scored the only goal in the 72nd minute of the game to win 1-0 at Akii Bua Memorial, as they took their point tally to 28 points.

Beating Kigezi Homeboyz helped Black Power to earn a one-point extension, as a new challenger in Ntungasazi stormed in by beating Solitillo Bright Stars 1-0 thanks to James Tekakwo’s goal.

With Kigezi Homeboyz dropping to 6 points, Ntungasazi became second with 24 points, with all teams in the promotional mix having already played 14 games, with only 1 to go at the end of the first round.

In the fourth position, Kataka FC also marked the beginning of 2026 with a 2-1 win over Kiyinda Boys, with Sam Watuwa and Isaac Owinyi scoring for Kataka, taking them to 22 points.

In other games, Iganga United at their home managed to end Bunyaruguru FC’s recent fine form, which ended 2025 with three wins in a row.

With the support of attacking midfielder Usama Uthuman Mulindwa, who had a good game on the day, Eric Wabuzibu scored the goal for Iganga United to win 1-0.

Meanwhile, Paidha Black Angels, like Iganga United, returned to winning ways, beating rivals Onduparaka 2-0 with Joel Jagayembe and David Obed scoring the goals.

On another note, Wakiso Giants and Catda FC both at home continued to struggle, losing 1-0 to Kaaro Karungi and 2-1 to Nebbi Central, while Mbale Heroes picked up a lifeline 2-1 win over Young Elephants to keep their survival hope.
