The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced the appointment of Abdallah Mubiru as the new assistant coach of the Uganda Women’s National Football team, the Crested Cranes.

Mubiru replaces Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi, who has been moved to the U-20 team.

He will be joined by Olive Mbekeka as second assistant coach and Stephen Kiggundu as goalkeeper trainer.

Mubiru is a CAF A holder with a wealth of experience in Ugandan football. He has managed the Uganda Cranes and clubs like Proline FC, Vipers SC, KCCA FC, Police FC, and Mbeya City of Tanzania.

The appointment of Mubiru comes as Uganda prepares to face Algeria in the first round of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The first leg will be played on September 20 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, while the return leg will be played on September 26 in Oran, Algeria.

The winner on aggregate will face either Burundi or Ethiopia in the final qualification phase.

FUFA has also confirmed that the search for the Crested Cranes head coach and the entire Uganda Cranes technical team is ongoing.

Ayub Khalifah to Focus on U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

Ayub Khalifah will now focus on the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, where Uganda will face Mozambique in October.

Uganda will host the first leg between October 6 and 8, before the return leg a week later. The winner on aggregate will face either Senegal or Benin in the third round in November.

The changes in the Crested Cranes coaching staff are part of FUFA’s efforts to improve the team’s performance ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
