FUFA Super 8 | Quaterfinal | 2nd Leg
- Express FC 1-2 NEC FC
Agg 2-2( NEC wins on away goals rule)
NEC FC booked a place in the FUFA Super 8 semifinals after edging Express FC on the away goals rule, following a 2-1 win on Tuesday at Wankulukuku that tied the aggregate score at 2-2.
After losing the first leg 1-0 at home, NEC needed a big response and they delivered. Emmanuel Kulanga opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a header from Atendele Geriga’s perfect cross.
Captain Marvin Kavuma doubled the lead before halftime with a stunning strike into the top corner, punishing Express’ sloppy defending.
Express pulled one back in the 88th minute, but NEC held on to advance, thanks to their vital away goals.
Coach Hussein Mbalangu’s revamped squad showed improved chemistry, with new signings Siraje Ssentamu and Joseph Sseremba impressing in midfield, while Kulanga and Mucureezi constantly threatened down the flanks.
NEC now await a semifinal clash against the winner between URA FC and Kitara FC on Saturday, September 13, at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, with kickoff at 7 PM. If it ends in a draw, the match will go straight to penalties.
Meanwhile, preparations continue for NEC’s CAF Confederation Cup debut against Nairobi United on September 20 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
