The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled a 29-man squad for the Uganda Cranes Select team competing in the upcoming 2024 FUFA Super 8 tournament.
Local Talent and Experienced Free Agents Combine
Assistant coach Sam Ssimbwa selected a squad primarily featuring select Ugandan-based players and experienced free agents. The chosen players will showcase their skills against the top teams from the 2023/2024 Uganda Premier League season.
Facing Top Competition
The Uganda Cranes Select will face off against reigning champions SC Villa, along with BUL FC, Vipers SC, Kitara FC, KCCA FC, Maroons FC, and NEC FC. These clubs earned their spots in the tournament by finishing in the top seven positions of the last season.
Impressing for National Team Selection
FUFA Communications Director Ahmed Hussein highlighted the dual purpose of the tournament.
“The players in the select team will use the opportunity to impress and break into the senior team ahead of the AFCON Qualifiers, while the clubs will use the games to fine tune their squads for the new season,” Ahmed noted.
Training and Match Venues
The select team will begin non-residential training on Tuesday, July 23rd, at Lugogo’s Omondi Stadium, with the session starting at 8:00 AM. Three venues will host the FUFA Super 8 matches: Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, and Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
