FUFA has warned Uganda Premier League (UPL) clubs that they could lose the Shs3.4 billion funding package if they reject the proposed three-round league format.
The standoff follows Tuesday’s consultative meeting at Kampala Serena Hotel between FUFA officials and UPL club representatives.
FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo said progress was made on several issues, but the two sides failed to agree on the new format.
According to FUFA, the Shs3.4 billion, meant for player insurance, prize money, UPL staff recruitment, media, marketing, locker room bonuses, and direct club support will be redirected to the FUFA Big League for the next three seasons if reforms are blocked.
Clubs argue the funds should support the existing two-round format, in place since 1968. FUFA is expected to announce its final decision next Tuesday.
