FUFA TV Cup: Gulu to Host Knockout Stage

Following the recent draws held at the FUFA Complex, the final 16 teams have been divided into four groups for the upcoming knockout stage. The competition, which has expanded from 8 to 16 teams to give players more opportunities, is set to kick off in Gulu at St. Joseph’s College Layibi from September 1-9, 2025.


Key Matchups and Group Previews

Group A Host school St. Joseph’s College Layibi will face off against Kako SS, Muntuyera High School, and St. Charles Lwanga Kasasa.

Group B This group features a highly anticipated clash between last season’s champions, Nabumali High School, and a strong contender, Jinja College. They will also compete against Duhaga Secondary School and Mpanga SSS.

Group C Former champions St. Mary’s College Kisubi will navigate a challenging group that includes Mengo Senior School, Dr. Obote College Boro Boro, and Ngora High School. Mengo SS sports supervisor Jeremiah Mugerwa expressed confidence in his team, stating, “This time around, it is our target, and we are very confident about it.”

Group D – The “Group of Death” Dubbed the “group of death,” this highly competitive group includes last year’s runners-up Jinja SS, along with football giants Kibuli SS, St. Charles Lwanga College Koboko, and Mbale SS. Kibuli SS sports patron Rashid Dembe acknowledged the challenge but remained optimistic, noting, “Kibuli always remains Kibuli. We will only be pleased if we reach the final.”


Tournament Structure

The organizing committee chairman, Dr. Apollo Ahimbisibwe, explained the new format, which aims to maximize playing time for the student-athletes. The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the championship phase, while the bottom two teams will compete in classification matches.
