FUFA unveils first UPL double header under new league format

The 2025/26 Uganda Premier League is kicking off a bold new chapter with FUFA promising a more competitive and fan-friendly experience. 

Despite mixed reactions from clubs and supporters, the federation insists the changes will soon win hearts.

On Saturday, FUFA announced details of the season’s first double header, set for Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the refurbished Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. 

Action begins at 5 pm. with Kitara FC Vs Vipers SC, followed by a classic night clash, KCCA FC Vs SC Villa at 8 pm.

Big names back the plan

At a Kampala Serena Hotel briefing, FUFA 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, League Manager Eric Oron Owori, Kitara President ASP Gilbert Nyaika, and KCCA official Joshua Nagenda unveiled ticket prices and event details.

Nakiwala outlined a five-tier ticket system to suit every fan: Early Bird UGX 10,000, Ordinary UGX 20,000, Silver UGX 30,000, Premium UGX 50,000, and Platinum UGX 100,000, which includes a commemorative sticker and halftime hospitality.

“This is about making the league more attractive and sustainable,” she said. “Fans will embrace the changes once they see the quality on offer.”

Clubs ready despite debate

While Vipers SC and SC Villa initially questioned the new format, Owori confirmed all four teams are on board.

Kitara’s Nyaika urged fans to fill the stands. “We’re excited about this move and believe it will draw more supporters. Kitara fans, turn up in big numbers,” he said.

KCCA’s Nagenda added, “The last double header at Namboole had a fantastic atmosphere. We expect the same energy next Friday.”

Early season picture

KCCA opened with a 1–1 draw against Kitara on matchday one. SC Villa and Vipers SC are yet to play this season.
