The FUFA Women Super League kicked off on Saturday, October 14th with one match, before climaxing on the following day with four exciting games.

Three away teams won their matches, with only Kampala Queens winning at home. The only draw came in the opening game, when UCU Lady Cardinals played to a goalless draw with Lady Doves.

Matchday one had everything: last-minute tears and joy, comebacks, poor starts for some teams, and some incredible moments. But who were the best performers?

Goalkeeper

  • Zahara Nankya (She Makerere FC)

Nankya had an outstanding performance against newcomers Wakiso Hill WFC organizing her defense well, but her best moment of the game came in the last minutes when she made an unbelievable save to deny the hosts an equalizer and keep a clean sheet.

Defenders

  • Lydia Najjunju (She Maroons), Winnie Nakanwagi (She Makerere), Justine Najjuko (She Maroons), Jamirah Nabulime (Kampala Queens)

Right back:

Najjunju put on an impressive display as her team beat Asubo Ladies FC 5-0. She stopped all of the opponent’s wingers from creating chances, and was also good at going forward, adding an assist to her name.

Left back:

Jamirah Nabulime

Nakanwagi made two massive clearances and helped her team to keep a clean sheet as She Makerere beat Wakiso Hill WFC 1-0.

Center backs:

Nabulime worked tirelessly to cover the entire backline and organize her team as Kampala Queens won the game 2-1 against Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC.

Najjuko pocketed Asubo Ladies FC’s strikers the entire game as her team registered the biggest win of the day. Her workrate was unmatched.

Midfielders

  • Agnes Nabukenya (Kawempe Muslim), Phiona Nabulime (Kawempe Muslim), Shamirah Nalugya (Kampala Queens)

Nalugya came off the bench and her creativity in the midfield was evident, helping Kampala Queens to equalize from the spot before her teammate Nagadya netted late to win the game.

Kawempe’s Nabukenya and Phiona Nabulime played a big role as their team fought hard to beat Rines SS WFC 3-2.

Nabukenya scored one goal and assisted once, while Phiona Nabulime scored the third winning goal with an amazing display.

Forwards

  • Catherine Nagadya (Kampala Queens), Noeline Namiro (She Makerere), Lillian Kasuubo (She Maroons)

New signing Namiro netted the only goal that handed She Makerere FC a vital away win, but her workrate was top notch.

Game changer Nagadya came from the bench in the second half to win it late for Kampala Queens against her former club Uganda Martyrs.

Sh Maroons’ striker Lillian Kasuubo

Kasuubo was by far the best player on matchday one. The goal poacher became the first player to hit a hat-trick this season as her team She Maroons thrashed Asubo Ladies 5-0 at Kampala Quality.
