FUFA Women Super League
- Kampala Queens 1-2 Kawempe Muslim
Agnes Nabukenya etched her name into FUFA Women Super League folklore on Saturday morning, delivering a stunning performance that saw Kawempe Muslim Ladies shatter Kampala Queens’ unbeaten record.
With a clinical brace at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Nabukenya single-handedly guided her team to a hard-fought 2-1 victory in a match that will be remembered for both its intensity and significance.
The clash began with both sides testing each other cautiously. Kampala Queens, already crowned champions of the 2024-25 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League, had a golden opportunity to seize control in the 21st minute.
However, Shamirah Nalugya failed to convert from the spot, a miss that would later haunt the home side.
With the game deadlocked and halftime looming, Nabukenya broke the stalemate, netting just before the break to give Kawempe a 1-0 lead. The goal energized both the visitors and the fans, hinting at an upset in the making.
Kampala Queens responded swiftly after the interval, with the pacey Peace Muduwa leveling the score nine minutes into the second half. But just as the champions began to find their rhythm, Nabukenya struck again, just four minutes later to restore Kawempe’s lead.
Her brace proved decisive, snapping Kampala Queens’ formidable 19-game unbeaten streak (14 wins, 5 draws) and handing them their first loss of the season.
Despite the defeat, Kampala Queens remain champions, having sealed the title ahead of time. For Kawempe Muslim, the victory solidifies their place as the league’s second-best team and sets the tone for a strong finish to the season.
Elsewhere in the League, Luzira saw She Maroons missed an opportunity to close the gap on second-placed Kawempe after a 1-1 draw with third-placed Amus College WFC. Anitah Babirye put She Maroons ahead with just three minutes left, only for Amus to equalize shortly after the restart. The point sees Amus move to 35 points, maintaining their slim hopes of a top-two finish.
Matchday 20 continues on Sunday with several critical fixtures. Relegation-threatened Olila High School WFC (10th place, 18 points) face Uganda Martyrs (7th place, 23 points) both teams eyeing crucial points. The Kiddawalime Ladies could climb as high as fifth if results elsewhere go their way.
She Corporates will battle Rines SS WFC, while Lady Doves FC (4th place) take on Makerere University at the latter’s home turf. Lady Doves aim to keep pressure on Amus College for third place.
Meanwhile, bottom-placed Wakiso Hill, yet to win a game this season, hosts Tooro Queens, who are desperate for points to escape the relegation zone.
With just three games remaining, Wakiso Hill’s final stretch offers a last gasp at salvaging pride.
