Halima Kampi delivered a decisive reminder of her quality, scoring the lone goal as Makerere University beat Kawempe Muslim Ladies 1-0 and dented their title hopes in the FUFA Women Super League on Sunday.
Facing her former club, Kampi struck in the first half to seal victory and complete a league double over the Valley Warriors. It was a familiar story for Kawempe, who also fell to Makerere in the first round.
Kawempe came into the match knowing a win would take them back to the top. They created chances but lacked the finishing touch when it mattered. Makerere stayed organized and made their moment count.
The result leaves Kawempe two points behind leaders She Corporate with three matches to play. Their only defeats this season have come against Makerere.
She Corporate had moved top on Saturday after edging Olila 1-0, thanks to a late goal from substitute Moureen Nankinga. That result piled pressure on Kawempe, who failed to respond.
There is still time to recover. Kawempe host Rines on April 25 and could return to the summit before She Corporate face St Noa a day later.
Kawempe will also play Kampala Queens and Olila in their final matches, while She Corporate meet St Noa, Uganda Martyrs, and She Maroons.
Elsewhere, Amus beat Kampala Queens 2-0 in Lugogo, while Lady Doves and Rines played out a goalless draw.
