As the FUFA Women’s Super League wrapped up the 2025-2026 season’s first round, drama unfolded at the Makerere University stadium, with the referee failing to blow the final whistle.
The match, played on Saturday, December 13, started controversially after referee Fahad Lumala awarded a penalty in the 45th minute, a decision disputed by the Asubo Ladies players.
Amid protests against the decision to award Makerere University a penalty, Asubo Ladies players prevented the penalty from being taken for around 15 minutes.
The situation was tense as Makerere University led 2-0 with goals from Ruth Kobusingye and Halima Kampi, who scored from the penalty spot after Bridget Nabayaza fouled Kobusingye.
Later, the situation calmed down after the Asubo Ladies coaches calmed their players. A penalty was subsequently taken by Halima Kampi and saved by goalkeeper Olga Lukia Butiru, sending the match to halftime with the score still at 2-0.
After the break, four Asubo Ladies players – Sarah Babirye, Bridget Nabayaza, Caroline Nakato, and Mercy Nimusiima, did not return for the second half due to injuries.
With the team already having only 11 players, it has been reduced to seven.
Approximately 13 minutes into the second half, Makerere University scored a third goal through Phionah Watsemba, leading 3-0.
About 3 minutes later, the 7th player on the Field for Asubo, Brenda Nalumu was injured, and the match ended prematurely.
The reason the game ended before the 90th minute is because Asubo remained with only six players on the pitch.
