Wakiso Hill WFC have edged Asubo Ladies FC to take maximum points in a 5-goal thriller of the FUFA Women’s Super League played on Saturday at Kawanda SS, home of Asubo.
In just two minutes, defender Fatumah Nakasumba scored a stunning free kick to put the visitors in an early lead against her former club.
Twenty two minutes later, the hosts equalized through Sarah Babirye after good work from Kamiyat Naigaga who skillfully beat her opponents to set up Babirye, who easily tapped the ball into the back of the net, making the score 1-1 at halftime.
In the 54th minute of play Naigaga put Asubo in the lead for the first time with a wonderful run and goal, only for Zaitun Namaganda to equalize for the visitors three minutes later for a 2-2 score.
With the game hanging in the balance, Esther Anzoo emerged as the hero for Wakiso Hill, scoring a late winner to secure all three points for the visitors.
This 3-2 victory marks Wakiso Hill’s first win in the second round of the season and under coach Rogers Nkugwa. The Antelopes also completed a double over Asubo having won the first leg 3-1.
The win takes Wakiso Hill to eight points, closing the gap to safety from the drop zone to three points. Asubo Ladies remain in danger as well, sitting just two points above with 10 points.
Wakiso Hill will look to build on this momentum when they host UCU Lady Cardinals next Saturday, April 6th. Meanwhile, Asubo Ladies will be aiming to bounce back when they welcome Uganda Martyrs Lubaga on Sunday, April 7th.
