From the onset, the Gazelles controlled the game, taking a 10-point lead in the first quarter (27-17) and extending it to 19 points by halftime (50-31).
They maintained their dominance throughout, finishing the third quarter with a 68-51 advantage and closing out the game 83-69.
The team’s performance was highlighted by standout player Jane Asinde who led the charge with 28 points.
Asinde, earning her third consecutive Player of the Game award, also contributed 9 rebounds, 4 assists with an efficiency rating of 29.
Paige Robinson (14 points), Shakirah Nanvubya (12) and Hope Akello (10) came in handy.
South Sudan’s efforts, with Delicia Washington scoring 24 points and Adut Bulgak contributing 14 points, were not enough to topple the Gazelles.
The Gazelles will face Burundi on Thursday, with a chance to secure a spot in the final of qualifiers.
A victory will set up a potential showdown with Egypt on Saturday, with a place in the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket finals in Côte d’Ivoire on the line.
