After two straight defeats, Uganda’s women’s national basketball team, the Gazelles, bounced back with a confidence-boosting 69–62 win over Cameroon in their final warm-up ahead of the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket.

Coming off losses to Egypt and Rwanda, the Gazelles responded with urgency, opening the game with a strong 26–17 first quarter and holding firm the rest of the way.

Captain Jane Asinde led the charge with a dominant double-double, 26 points and 19 rebounds setting the tone on both ends.

She got solid support from Melissa Akullu with 13 points and veteran Hope Akello, who added 11.

The game also saw the return of guard Jamila Nansikombi, who chipped in six points after missing the Rwanda clash.

Agatha Kamwada remained sidelined, while Mya Wasswa, Claire Lamunu, and Paige Robinson are set to join the team in Ivory Coast.

Next up, the Gazelles head to Alexandria on Wednesday for their final training camp before traveling to Abidjan for the continental tournament.
