This exciting victory marks the official start of the iconic Entebbe Road football tournament, sponsored by sports philanthropist Frank Mutalaga. This year’s edition boasts an impressive 80 participating teams, with the competition kicking off on Monday, July 8th, 2024, at the Lweza Play Ground.

Frank Mutalaga, the founder of the annual tournament, expressed his pride in its growth over the past eight years. “Running a tournament of this scale for eight years is no easy feat,” he said.
“But I’m not a politician; I’m doing this to nurture the talent of our youth. We have the potential to develop players like Sadio ManĂ© here in Uganda.”

Mutalaga emphasizes the importance of inclusivity for Ugandan footballers. “For those who believe in limitations on player participation, I say this: I haven’t seen a complete player in Uganda yet. Every player in the country deserves this platform to showcase their skills.”

The tournament founder further urged the Lweza community to play a leading role in maintaining discipline throughout the event. “This event benefits the Lweza community significantly,” he stated. “Therefore, I urge the residents of Lweza to take responsibility and ensure a well-disciplined atmosphere during the tournament.”
Tournament to Run Until Christmas, Registration Fees Detailed
The Mutalaga Christmas Cup will continue throughout the festive season, culminating on Christmas Day. All participating teams will receive a participation fee of 300,000 shillings.
