For the first time at the Prince Faisal bin Fahad Olympic Complex in Riyadh, the Uganda National Anthem played in honor of swimmer Anna Gloria Muzito, who won gold in the 50m Freestyle Women’s Final on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
The 21-year-old powered through lane four with poise and speed, touching the wall first in 25.59 seconds, a new personal best.
Her win marked a proud and emotional moment for Uganda’s swimming community.
“I’m so happy for this medal. It’s been hard work, and I thank my coaches,” said a jubilant Muzito, dedicating her victory to her family.
Muzito’s form was evident all through the event, she topped her heat in 25.77, improved to 25.58 in the semifinals, and sealed gold with a flawless sprint in the final.
Egypt’s Farida Osman won silver in 26.04, while Indonesia’s Nadia Aisha Nurazmi took bronze in 26.18.
Her triumph delivered Uganda’s second medal at the ongoing games, following Alfred Ojok’s bronze in the light heavyweight (80kg) boxing category.
Uganda’s 39-athlete delegation is competing in seven sports, swimming, boxing, athletics, wrestling, weightlifting, para-powerlifting, and table tennis.
