Gloria Namugerwa Returns to Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC, Bolstering Defense

FUFA Women Super League side Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Women Football Club have reunited with Crested Cranes defender Gloria Namugerwa in a bid to bolster their back line.

Namugerwa, who is known for her calmness in defense, leadership and ability to win aerial deuls, joins the Lubaga based side from FCF Amani in Congo, a club she joined in 2022.

The defender left Uganda Martyrs in 2021 and joined Lady Doves with whom she won a bronze medal in the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal qualifers before switching to FCF Amani in Congo.

At FCF Amani, Namugerwa played 18 league games, starting 15, came from the bench 3 times and helped the club to win the 2022/23 league.

She also scored three league goals and registered five assists during her successful stay at FCF Amani.

The former Lady Doves defender won the 2019 CECAFA U-17 Women’s championship with Teen Cranes (Uganda U-17 Women’s National Team) and now returns to her childhood club.

Uganda Martyrs have already extended the contracts of forward Brenda Munyana and defender Stella Namisango who missed the first round of the league.

The club is also set to announce the new coaching staff after partying ways with head coach Issa Ssempijja and his assistant Emmy Kisakye as they gear up for the return of the second round of the FUFA Women Super League.
